Peter and Lola
One half of P-Square music group fame, Peter Okoye on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at West Fosters, located at 70, Queens Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos organised a surprise birthday bash for his heartthrob, Lola Omotayo.
Family members of Lola including her dad and few other friends were in attendance. They were given a posh treatment at swimming pool side of the venue where there were enough to eat and drink.
The Managing Director of DANA Air, Jacky Hathiramani also attended the get-together with his wife.
Lola was taken by surprise as she wasn’t aware Peter had made such preparation for her. The multiple award-winning singer had only told her that only both of them were going to West Fosters to have some good time. But on their arrival, Lola was surprised to see her father and other guests who stood up to sing birthday song for her.
Speaking on why he organised the bash for Lola, Peter said “She is a wonderful woman who means a lot to me. Special people deserve special things like this.”
Few weeks ago, Peter announced that thet (Peter and Lola) were expecting their second child.

Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in signing Mexico's Olympic gold medal winner Hector Herrera, according to his club.

The 22-year-old Pachuca midfielder is rated at £10 million after helping Mexico defeat Brazil to win the Olympic football tournament.
Pachuca sporting director Andres Fassi said United had approached him about Herrera, who is not yet a full international, but added that he hoped to keep the playmaker.
"There is an official interest," he explained. "We have the document, but there's nothing else to add at this time. We want him to continue in Pachuca. We know he's going to emigrate to England, though. Manchester United and Liverpool have talked to us.
"At whatever moment he wants, he can leave Pachuca and the club will give him the opportunity to do so."
Herrera told Raza Deportiva: "The truth is that so far I know nothing about what is happening, I am not aware. From what I've heard there has been some news, but I have had no approach from the Pachuca club president or the people from Manchester.
"If given the opportunity to emigrate to European football, of course I'd go but I have wait to see what the club officials say. I did not expect it so soon, I did not expect these big clubs to be tracking me after such a short time, but this is the result of the sacrifices I have made.
"There wasn't any approach or any talks and I haven't had the pleasure of getting to know Chicharito [Javier Hernandez, the United forward]."

Man Impregnates Mother-In-Law, Says 'She Seduced Me With Adult Films'

‘bedminton’ was not part of the sporting activities listed for the tournament. IDOWU ADELUSI, in this piece, reports the story of a man who put his mother-in-law in a family way. MRS Aminat Ibrahim’s story appears fictitious, but it is not. The claim of the 40-year-old trader that her husband is the father of a four-month-old baby girl born by her mother leaves one wondering whether Aminat knows the weight of her claim or not. Mrs Ibrahim said she was ashamed and rattled by the development, adding that her unrepentant mother had threatened to curse her for exposing her misdeed. Narrating how love affair developed between her mother and the husband, Mrs Ibrahim said her mother, who lived in a village at Apomu Area of Osun State, had been visiting them regularly at Oje Area of Ibadan where they (couple) lived. She continued, “being my mother, I had no cause to worry, moreso, when she told me that she was assisting me spiritually to become pregnant. “I wedded my husband five years ago without issue. Sometime in February last year, my mother came to visit us and said she would stay with us for a while. “I objected since I was not nursing a baby, but she insisted and said was worried about our childlessness and wanted to help us get over it. When I told my husband he was glad about my mother’s concern. “Being a trader, I always leave home most times at 6.00 am for neighbouring towns and villages to buy yam tubers or vegetables and then bring them to the market to sell. I always leave the market at 7 pm. “My husband is a mechanic. He has his workshop at a place not far from our house. This enabled him to always come home in the afternoon for lunch often prepared by my mother. “After a while, my husband would tell me jokingly that my mother’s soup was delicious than the soup I prepared. “I did not suspect that anything was going on between them. After all, I trusted my husband, besides the woman in question is my mum and not a friend. “In December last year, I noticed that my mother’s belly was protruding. When I demanded to know if she was pregnant, she said yes. She told me further that her man-friend in the village impregnated her, adding that she used to go to the village when everybody in the house had gone out. Our father died long ago. “I advised her to look for accommodation elsewhere but she refused. After exerting much pressure on her to leave our house, she confessed that my husband impregnated her. “I was dazed and almost passed out. She told me that my husband ignited the love affairs. " According to the mother, whenever she (the mother) was in the bathroom, the husband would jump in to see her nakedness, pretending to be unaware that she was in the bathroom. Explaining further, the mother said, “each time he came home for lunch, he would play pornographic films, inviting me to join him in the sitting room to watch it." Mrs Ibrahim added, “According to my mum, while the film was going on, my husband would come to where she was sitting and grabbed her. Even after she had freed herself from him and run to stay in the kitchen, my husband would still go to meet her and that was how he started having sex with her. “My mother told me that she agreed to his demand since it was just to satisfy him and protect my marriage. Moreso, she never thought she could get pregnant again at 57 years. “My mother explained further that my husband stopped going to work on Saturdays in order to stay with her at home. She told me that four attempts were made to terminate the foetus because she was ashamed but each attempt was unsucceesful." The woman revealed that when she confronted her husband on the issue, the husband told her to take it easy because she was still childless. Her word: “My husband told me that it was my mother who seduced him by always staying naked in the room knowing that he could come into the room anytime since they are living in a room and palour apartment. “He told me not to bother him much on the matter since I don’t have any child for him.” When asked if the 'new couple' were still staying together, she said no, explaining that they had disappeared from the house and did not know where they were. However, this reporter and a staff of Succour traced Mr Tiamiyu Ibrahim to a village in Ikire. He blamed everything on satan, saying that he never believed his mother-in-law could become pregnant for him. His words, “Iya yen lo fa mi mora, to ni ki nma ba a oun tage. Emi ko mo pe o lee j’asi oyun, month ro wipe iya ti koja eni to tun le ni oyun ni.” (It was my mother-in-law who seduced me, I never knew she could become pregnant again, but thought she had reached her menopause.) The wife said she was disappointed by her husband’s behaviour, saying, “if he had told me he needed a second wife, I would not refuse him. Why should he be having love affairs with my own mother?” she asked. Sunday Tribune gathered that the mother-in-law, who later gave birth to a baby girl, brought the baby to Ibadan a month ago. She was said to have been reviled by neighbours for bringing shame on her daughter and destroying her home. The mother-in-law could not be reached as everybody contacted said her whereabouts were unknown. |

BREAKING: Funke Akindele Finally Opens Up: Says, I Am Still In Christ
The wedding of top Nigerian actress, Khadijat Funke Almaroof Oloyede
formerly known as Funke Akindele may have been concluded but it would
for a long time remain in the memory of many.
With some people and media still in shock at the sudden change of venue, more reactions have cropped up.
Since the controversies arose due to her choice of love, the actress has kept mum on the issue. Her twitter account, which Funke has always made use of was silent, especially on the wedding controversies.
Her marriage to an Alhaji, while she is reported to be a 'born again' christian was part of the many controversies. This was further heated up when some got to know that she and her mother are devoted members of Pastor D.K Olukoya's MFM church.
Also was the controversy of her settling down as a second wife of Almaroof; her husband.
At the early hours of today, May 27, Funke opened up to a fan of hers. One of her twitter followers asked, "my sister, Funke Akindele, hope you are still in CHRIST?"
Funke then responded, "always in Christ!! He's my strength and shield. Thanks."
In an appreciation to the support she got from people, the Ikorodu, Lagos-born actress tweeted, thanks a lot for the lovely wishes! God bless you all. Sulia Kan! Tweethearts Kan!! (One Sulia, One Tweethearts)
Funke Akindele finally completed her wedding rites to Almaroof yesterday at The Haven Event Centre, Ikeja after it was moved from All Season Plaza, Ikeja, Lagos.
Funke is reported to be 36 while Almaroof is reported to be 37.

Wole Soyinka Blasts Jonathan: Your Action Is A Disrespect
This is one gift horse which, contrary to traditional saying, must be
inspected thoroughly in the mouth. Primary from all of us must be a plea
to the MKO Abiola family not to misconstrue the protests against the
naming of the University of Lagos after their heroic patriarch.
Issues must be separated and understood in their appropriate contexts. The family will acknowledge that, among the loudest opposing voices to Jonathan’s gift horse, are those who have clamoured tirelessly that MKO Abiola, the Nigerian nation’s president-elect, be honoured nationally, and in a befitting manner.
Next is my confession to considerable shock that President Goodluck Jonathan did not even think it fit to consult or inform the administrators of the university, including Council and Senate, of his intention to re-name their university for any reason, however laudable. This arbitrariness, this act of disrespect, was a barely tolerated aberration of military governance. It is totally deplorable in what is supposed to be a civilian order.
After that comes the bad-mouthing of MKO Abiola and the Nigerian electorate by President Jonathan who referred to MKO as the “presumed winner” of a historic election. While applauding the president for finally taking the bull by the horn and rendering honour unto whom honour is due, the particularities of this gesture have made it dubious, suspect, and tainted.
You do not honour someone while detracting from his or her record of achievement. MKO Abiola was not a presumed winner, but the President-elect of a nation, and thus universally acknowledged.
It is sad, very sad, that after his predecessor who, for eight full years of presidency, could not even bear to utter the name of a man who made his own incumbency possible, along comes someone who takes back with the left hand what the right has offered.
However, there is hope. Legalists have claimed that there is a legal flaw to the entire process. The university, solidly backed by other tertiary institutions nation-wide, should immediately proceed to the courts of law and demand a ‘stay of execution’. That should give President Jonathan time to re-consider and perhaps shift his focus to the nation’s capital for institutions begging for rituals of re-naming.
After all, it is on record that the House of Assembly did once resolve that the Abuja stadium be named after the man already bestowed the unique title of “Pillar of African Sports”.
He deserved that, and a lot more. What he did not deserve is to be, albeit posthumously, the centre of a fully avoidable acrimony, one that has now resulted in the shutting down of one of the institutions of learning to whose cause, the cause of learning, President-elect MKO Abiola also made unparalleled private contributions.
Let me end by stressing that my position remains the same as it was when the University of Ife was re-named Obafemi Awolowo University.

Nigeria: Flying Eagles face imminent Out

There is just no hope for the Flying Eagles to progress in the Eight-Nation Tournament that is taking place in South Africa as John Obuh's boys conceded a second straight defeat just on Sunday.
There is just no hope for the Flying
Eagles to progress in the Eight-Nation Tournament that is taking place
in South Africa as John Obuh's boys conceded a second straight defeat
just on Sunday.
Barely two days after putting up a poor show in their opening Group A match against Ghana that ended in a 3-2 loss, the Flying Eagles lost to Argentina in Cape Town again on Sunday by a single gaol to nothing.
Coach explained that his team lost because his boys panicked.
"It wasn't a bad game, but I expected my players to have lifted their game after our loss to Ghana, rather they panicked and were mostly in a hurry," said coach Obuh
"All the same, this has given me a better assessment of the team," he added.
With such performance, Nigeria is forced to be kicked out of the competition.

At least six people, including three civilians, were
killed Wednesday in northern Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region
when a roadside bomb exploded as security forces tried to defuse it.
"Three members of the security forces and three civilians were killed in the explosion," said security official Mahdi Abdulahi.
The blast occurred in the northern part of Galkayo, a town straddling the border separating Puntland from the Galmudug region to the south.
"The civilians thought it was safe and they approached, but then it exploded," said Jama Alale, a grocer living nearby, adding that he had seen dead bodies with limbs ripped off by the explosion.
No group has yet claimed the attack.

Liberia's Taylor sentenced to 50 years in jail

A UN-backed war crimes court sentenced Liberia's former
president Charles Taylor to 50 years in jail Wednesday for arming rebels
in Sierra Leone in return for "blood diamonds".
Taylor, 64, was convicted last month of all 11 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity for aiding and abetting Sierra Leone's Revolutionary United Front (RUF) during the country's brutal 1991-2001 civil war.
In return, the court said, he was paid in diamonds mined by slave labour in areas under control of the rebels, who murdered, raped and kept sex slaves, hacked off limbs and forced children under 15 to fight.
"The accused has been found responsible for aiding and abetting some of the most heinous crimes in human history," said Special Court for Sierra Leone judge Richard Lussick on Wednesday.
"The trial chamber unanimously sentences you to a single term of imprisonment for 50 years on all counts," the judge said as he announced the ruling of the court based at Leidschendam, just outside The Hague.
"The trial chamber noticed that the effects of these crimes on the families and society as a whole in Sierra Leone was devastating," Lussick said in handing down the ruling, the first sentence against a former head of state in an international court since the Nazi trials at Nuremberg in 1946.
Taylor, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and dressed in a dark suit and gold tie, listened with his eyes closed as the judge handed down the sentence, which Taylor's team, and prosecutors, have two weeks to appeal.
Early this month, chief prosecutor Brenda Hollis argued for 80 years behind bars for Taylor, once one of west Africa's most powerful men and a driving force behind Sierra Leone's decade-long war which claimed 120,000 lives.
His defence argued such a sentence would be "excessive".
Throughout the trial, Taylor himself maintained his innocence and insisted he was instrumental in eventually ending Sierra Leone's civil war.
He will remain in the UN's detention unit in The Hague until his appeal procedure is finalised.
Taylor's sentence will be served in a British prison. London's offer in 2007 to host Taylor in custody if he was found guilty was part of the deal to put him on trial in the Netherlands-based court.
The trial, which lasted nearly four years, saw several high-profile witnesses testify, including supermodel Naomi Campbell, who told of a gift of "dirty diamonds" she received in 1997 at a charity ball hosted by South Africa's then president Nelson Mandela.
Handing down the verdict last month, Judge Lussick stressed that although Taylor had substantial influence over the RUF, including its feared leader Foday Sankoh, this "fell short of command and control" of rebel forces.
Sankoh died in 2003 before he could face trial.
Authorities in Nigeria arrested Taylor in March 2006 as he tried to flee from exile after being forced to quit Liberia three years earlier, under international pressure to end that country's own civil war.
He was transferred to The Hague in mid-2006 amid security fears should he go on trial in Sierra Leone's capital Freetown.
Taylor's sentencing came 66 years after the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg sentenced admiral Karl Donitz to 10 years in jail for his part in Nazi crimes during World War II. Adolf Hitler had appointed Donitz his successor shortly before committing suicide in Berlin in 1945.
